Social Skills at The Learning Center Preschool

Preschool is all about facilitating the young child and socialization.  Here at The Learning Center we work towards specific social skills based on the development of the child and the chemistry of the group.  With the help of our own Mitzvah Maker Cape program, The Kindness Curriculum, and I Can Problem Solve program our children learn the tools needed to manage the playground politics of early childhood.  Social skills are significant life skills that enhance all areas of learning.

The following are some of the specific areas that are addressed at The Learning Center:

  • Focus- the ability to sustain attention and manage distractions

  • Self-awareness

  • Self-regulation- managing their attention, feelings, and impulses and show some effort at self -control

  • Cooperation and responsibility

  • Perspective taking

  • Problem solving

  • Social and emotional understanding

  • Empathy and caring

  • Interactions with peers

  • Friendship

  • Group participation

  • Initiative in learning

  • Attachments to parents and separation

  • Close relationships with teachers and caregivers, and interactions with familiar adult
