Stay Calm and Keep On

I have always supported the belief that having a sense of humor is a great coping mechanism. Laughing is good for your health. These days during the Coronavirus Pandemic we all are working hard to take care of our health and our loved ones health. Everyone’s emotional health is as important as our physical health. If you are doing all that comes with this pandemic; constant handwashing, no school, social distancing, working from home, being with your husband, wife and children 24/7 my guess talking in complete sentences is getting more and more difficult. There is a silver lining to this.  Your children. 

 

I know…I can hear many of you saying and thinking this woman is crazy! Their toys are everywhere. They’re so needy and crabby. They are not listening to me. Take a breath parents. If you could look at the world through your child’s eyes life could be a lot easier. I am not saying give up boundaries and routines. I am saying weave play and laughter throughout their day. It is contagious. Get outside. Find some puddles to walk through with them. Start walking in the woods nearby. Breath. Let them lead with their sense of awe and curiosity.

 

I am not minimizing the frustration of being a parent during this time of isolation.  If your emotional health is in check than, most likely, your child’s emotional health will develop in check. Follow your child’s lead with play and laughter and in turn you help them learn to cope when the waters get rough.
